July 30th, 2015

So, let's just 'hypothetically' say that when the boys wake up in the morning, I'm not quite ready to get up. I usually (once again 'hypothetically') mumble to them to get their 'iPats's' (thanks Great Grand Aunt Paula!) and snuggle in bed with me.
One morning, I was actually up before them! I was in the kitchen and saw Kellan walk to the tooooooo room and get his 'iPat'. He then proceeded to walk to my bedroom and I quietly chuckled and waited a few minutes...then a few minutes more (Kellan marches to the beat of his own drum). Finally Kellan came out with his blue eyes and dimpled up when he saw me in the kitchen. I also gave him breakfast and milk that morning. And the Mom of the year award goes to?...

I asked Kellan what his middle name was, and he replied "Kix". Then he thoughtfully said, "it's really not banana". As far as I know, no one had mentioned the word banana since we were last at the grocery store. Thank God for Kellan's!

Camden put on a little show for me while outside in the backyard. I don't think I picked up on the fact that he was putting on a show until it was almost time for intermission, but he was still as one cheek dimply as ever. Thank God for Camden's!

July 29th, 2015

Camden has been asking tons of questions about God and the devil. Grammy tried to explain it to him saying there's a good angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other. Camden tried to look at his own shoulders and freaked out! We had to explain that this was figurative. Not an easy task to educate an OCD 5 year old on...

While we were talking about this, Kellan wasn't phased one bit. Grammy asked him if he would ignore the bad devil and he shook his head no. Sounds about right...

Grammy and I were racking our brains trying to think of what we did with Camden's Our Lady of Joy school uniforms. I asked Grammy "did we turn it in to the school?". Camden piped up with "No! I'm right here!"...

Those with weak stomachs may want to skip this paragraph. It's not too bad, but I don't want any death threats. :)
Camden is always trying to get us to wipe his butt when he goes poop. I'm trying to explain to him that he's 5 years old and needs to wipe his own butt. Camden was on the pot and we were talking. I was bribing him about something (it happens too often to know what it was this time) and he said "ok! I'll do that and now you can wipe my butt!". I bent down to get the toilet paper and then realized this kid just swindled me...

Kellan calls earwigs 'weiner bugs'.

I asked Kellan if he could be good. He replied "where"? I went to say at Grammy's office, stopped and thought and said "Kellan, you should be good everywhere!" He shrugged.

July 27th, 2015

Camden, Kellan, Grammy and I all had a fun time at the "mallf" today! Carousel rides, train rides and seeing the puppies!

Camden was complaining of carsickness on the ride home. I told him he'll be okay, and that we're almost at the store. When we got out and were walking in to Walgreens, Kellan asked Camden if he was still carsick. Camden looked at Kellan miserably and said "now I'm store sick"...

I asked Kellan if he wanted some Cheez-Its. He looked at me surprised and said "Jesus?"...

Kellan was almost done with his dinner, but wouldn't finish the last few bites. I told him no dessert then. He replied, "that's ok. I don't want dirt!"...

Camden fell backwards in his kitchen chair tonight. It scared him more than anything and I was right there to pick him up and comfort him. He was completely fine in no time. Later that night I asked him if his head still hurt. He looked at me pathetically, said yes, and proceeded to rub the opposite side of his head that he was complaining hurt right after the fall...

Grammy took a picture of Camden, and he immediately wanted to see it. This kid wouldn't give up. Grammy said "hold on a minute. I have to edit it". To which Camden replied seriously "Don't head it it!"

I put a Charlie Brown shirt on Kellan. He looked down at it and said "Good Grief!"...

At Buffalo Wild Wings today, the waitress called Granfy "Grandpa". Kellan immediately corrected her and said "No! That's not Grandpa, that's Granfy!"

The boys absolutely love to play with the iPads at Buffalo Wild Wings. They ate so well, that they got ice cream for dessert! Camden looked up at me mid-scoopful and said "my ice cream is so delicious I can't play my iPad"...

When we say our prayers at night, Camden adds "please bless Mom, Dad, Camden, Kellan and God". That should get us some extra points, right?

During said outing at Buffalo Wild Wings, Camden looked over at Granfy, and said "Hey Jim! Do you like me?"...

Camden does such a good job looking out for his younger brother. Now that I think about it, Kellan always makes sure he knows where his big brother is too. We were playing at the mall playground, and Camden came up to me and asked "Where's the Charlie Brown man?". (Kellan had his Charlie Brown shirt on"...

In the car, Camden wanted everyone to copy what he was saying (until he got totally annoyed with that). Then Kellan piped up. "Hey! Will you guys 'coffee' me?". Then he said 'ello in a British accent. What the...?

Camden's in the stage where he thinks the words 'poop', 'butt', etc. are hilarious. (I'm still in that phase, but who's judging). I finally told Camden that if he said 'butt' one more time he was going to his room by himself. A few minutes later he said that word. I looked at him angrily and his defense was "Mom. I said 'but'. not 'butt'". Little future politician...

Camden can count to 10 in Spanish and knows a few other words. He asked him what 'Hola' meant and he said 'hi!'. Then Kellan said "Hola? Olaf!"...

I asked Camden what 2+8 is. When there were a few seconds of silence, I asked him again. His reply? "Hello? I'm thinking! Hello?". He's lucky he's cute...

Before we left the house, I asked the boys if they needed to go potty. Neither did. Halfway down our street, Camden shrieked that he had to go. I asked him why he didn't go at the house. He replied, "I didn't need to go then, but now I do- Yay!". I don't think 'Yay' is the right word here, monkey...

I went to the bathroom to check on Camden, only to be greeted with him bent over - naked butt in my face. He asked "Is it clean? I've been wiping for an hour!" Oh the joys of motherhood!

The boys collected seeds and we planted them in the back yard. They can't wait to check on and water them every morning. A few have sprouted and I'm not sure what they'll turn into. Something that shouldn't be in the backyard close to the house probably...

We were listening to MMMBop in the car and Camden announced "Hanson sounds like girls, but they're really boys". I definitely had to bite my tongue on that one...

July 21st, 2015

Kellan moved up to the Jellyfish class in swim today! (He's only been a Goldfish since November). I was laughing with the teachers about how long it took him to move to the next level. Once they realized it was ok to laugh at this, they cracked up. One teacher's comment summed up Kellan in general. She said "he just loves life, doesn't he?". Yes he does, coach, yes he does...

Camden was eating dinner and announced that he could do a handstand. This kid is me, or knows me too well. He said "don't worry, Mom, I won't do a handstand while I'm eating so I don't choke"...

When Nathan Neil and I were little (ok, still to this day), we called wash cloths "wath cloths". Kellan calls them "manapkins"...

Kellan just asked Camden what 6 plus tomato is. I didn't intervene, because this was my break from having to quiz Camden.

I've been having trouble sleeping lately. Usually when the boys get up too early I tell them to get their  "iPats" and bring them in bed with me. I was in the kitchen working around 5am and saw a Kellan scamper by with his iPat and headphones on. I giggled and when he realized I wasn't in my room, he just came out and asked where he should lay...

So, I've thought about disowning my children several times, but this made me ask for legal counsel. We were listening to MMMBop in the car and Camden made this statement. "Mom, Hanson sounds like girls, but they're really boys"...

July 20th, 2015

Kellan calls igloos "snowglues"...

Kellan and I had the best day yesterday while Camden was being spoiled at Grammy and Granfy's. It's so nice to spend one on one time with the boys. Although, Camden would rather be with Grammy and Granfy. He's lucky he's cute!

I told Kellan that my favorite part of our day together was the merry go round and the train. I asked him what his favorite part was. He replied "when it came to an end and we got to go to Grammy and Granfy's). This is why God made my children cute...

Kellan sometimes has a hard time when I drop him off at school. (Who can blame him? I'd hate to leave me too!). I bent down to tell him to be a good boy at drop off, and he brushed me off to tell the teacher that he went to the MALLF (mall) yesterday.

So now that it's 155 degrees here in Phoenix, when we get in the car I ask the boys if they can feel the air conditioner. I move the vents to the place I think will best hit the back seat. They say they can't feel it so I keep moving it. I tell them I'm going to keep moving the vent and for them to let me know when they can feel the air. Finally, I stop moving it, and a few seconds later they say they can now feel the air. Just let me have this moment, ok?

Kellan was quite chatty on the 20 minute drive to Grammy and Granfy's, so I asked him if he wanted to listen to music. When he said yes, my shoulders removed from my ears and returned to their normal position. I told him this was a new song that I hadn't played for him yet. I put in Guns 'n' Roses "Sweet Child of Mine". (See? I can be cool!). He excitedly shouted "Oh my gosh! This is my favorite song I've never heard!!!".

I thought it would be a good idea to teach the boys the "who stole the cookies from the cookie jar" song. Both boys took it literally. The desperately wanted to know who stole the cookie from the cookie jar. I finally had to tell them it was Muffie. Thanks for taking the blame, Mr. Gray Beard.

July 19th, 2015

When Kellan pouts (frequently) he wraps his entire arms around his body instead of just crossing his arms...

Camden is completely tone deaf. He's got many talents, but singing is not one of them...

At 4:48pm Kellan yelled "What happened to Church?" I was surprised because we were sitting in the front pew. Then he put his hand to his ear and said "I can't hear anything". Keep in mind, Mass starts at 5pm...

In the crowded restroom at the Turtle Restaurant, Kellan went into the stall by himself and locked the door. (His new thing). When we were washing our hands, he asked "Mom, where does your pee come from?" As I looked at the other bathroom patrons, I just kind of stuttered. Kellan repeatedly asked this question as the other women roared with laughter. I said "the same place as yours does, Kellan". He asked the question about two more times, and I just said Oh Kellan. As I prepared for a follow up, he commented on the water temperature. I said "so are we on a different subject now?" as the women washing their hands left the room wiping tears of laughter from their eyes...

Kellan seriously stinkily tooted the entire Mass. At the Turtle Restaurant, I smelled that same suspicious smell I had been smelling for the past hour. I asked Kellan if he tootie frootied. He said "no", and pointed to a random guy at the next table and said "it was him"...

When the server put our meals on the table, I asked Camden and Kellan if they said thank you. Camden proudly and loudly said "I did!". Kellan proudly and loudly said "I didn't!"...

Kellan came out this morning wearing Camden's sandals. I said "are you sure they're not too big?". He replied "No, Mom! Both shoes are the same size!". Not quite what I meant, but ok.

Kellan and I were talking about driving safely. I said "Kellan, I'm always careful driving. Especially with you in the car". Kellan thought a minute and said "I'm very careful driving with my toys in the car"...

We were walking in the parking lot and I was trying (trying key word) to tell Kellan to make sure to be aware and watch out for cars. He replied "because if we bump in to them it might be very rude?"

On the way back from Communion Camden started walking back to the pew, turned to Grammy and me and said "that was easy!".

Kellan announced "I want to do right stuff like Camden, but I just can't"...

July 16th, 2015

I went to check on the boys last night while they were sleeping. I checked Camden and bent down to check on Kellan. As I was bending down, Camden yelled out "SLIDE!". I looked up and realized he was dreaming. When I told him this the next morning, he made me tell this 3 second story about 25 times...

Camden said something that wasn't very nice. I looked at him and said "Camden, why did you say that?". He replied "Mom, I did not say that. I heard it come out of my mouth, but trust me - I did not say it".

As I put the boys to bed, Camden reminded me to turn off all the lights before I went to bed. I'm glad my 5 1/2 year old is running this household...

Kellan always asks me to pick him up from school early. Even though when I get there at 5pm, he's all smiles and dimples and having a ball. Today when I dropped him off he said "Mom, when it's snack time, I'll yell snack time really loud. You hold out your ear and listen and then tell Grammy to pick me up". I'm dying to hear if he really does yell "SNACK TIME!" at the top of his lungs...

I said "I love you, Kellan", and he didn't say it back. I said it repeatedly then finally asked him why he wasn't telling me he loved me. He giggled and said "Oh! I thought you were saying eyeball!"...

July 7th, 2015

Both Camden and Kellan got ribbons at swimming tonight! Kellan's teacher said he's one skill away from moving up from the Goldfish level (which he's been in since November). I don't think he cares ;)

I was trying to get Kellan to hurry to get dressed for swim which is no small feat in itself. As he was standing there *ahem* nude, I asked him to just sit down and get dressed. He replied "but Mom, if I sit on the floor, something might get in my butt!"

Kellan would barely eat dinner, so I asked him if he would have enough energy for swim class. He shrugged and said "we'll see if I sink or swim"...

I was making a pact with Kellan about going to school with a smile on his face. I reached for his hand and asked him to shake on it. He just outrageously shook his whole body. I'll take it!

Kellan's been having a hard time going to sleep lately. I asked him what was bothering him. He replied "Camden's 'brething' on me through the cracks of the bunk bed and I don't like it".

Grammy and I took the boys to Catch 22 for dinner tonight. Kellan cried and pouted for a full half hour. When I finally talked him out of it, he looked at Grammy and me and said "I was just joking". Who taught this kid what a good joke is?!

Kellan's been having trouble passing his hearing test. He seems to hear just fine except at a few times. (OR he just chooses not to listen).  But since he hasn't passed the test, we went for a follow up at the doctor today. They flushed his ears and said everything was fine. Thank God! I also took Camden to the dentist later today. Kellan proceeded to tell each and everyone we passed that had a dentist or hygienist outfit on that this check up wasn't for him because he had his ear wax cleaned out this morning. And I mean each and everyone we passed. And the story didn't come out of his mouth quickly. Earnestly, but not quickly. Also, the dr. had told Kellan they were flushing turtles out of his ears so he told everyone the turtles went to the "Turtle Restaurant". Oh I can't wait for the next time we eat there... And can anyone recommend a new dentist?

When I'm driving and the boys say something funny, I use Siri to make a note of it. Kellan said something not hilarious at all and then said "Hey Mom! That was funny, talk to your friend and send it to her"...

We saw a commercial for the movie "Home", and I asked the boys if they've seen it (because I really want to). Camden replied, "yes, but I can't remember which human took us".

July 6th, 2015

We were having a pretend birthday party for Camden Kellan and me. Before we blew out the candle, I asked them to make a wish. Camden wished for a puppy and Kellan wished for an eyeball cake. Sounds about right...

We've had some storms lately, and every time we see lightning, Kellan looks and me with an excited face and yells "FUNDER!".

I was having the best time playing matchbox cars with Kellan. I told him I'd be right back, and he said "Ok, I'll pause it".

We were going to the pool and Granfy said "Alright everyone! Get your butts out the door!" Camden looked at Grammy and said "your husband said butt".

We were pulling back into Grammy's driveway after Church. Granfy was following in his car. Camden looked around and said "where's Granfy? Oh! There's that knucklehead"...

Camden is such an artist. Kellan isn't quite there yet. He tried his best though, and used a white colored pencil on white paper and said it was a snowflake...

Kellan's been grumpy grouchy lately. I asked him what was bugging him. He thought for a minute, frowned, and said "bugs"...

Camden: Could you tell my teachers I'm coming down with something? And tap me on the head when you say it, so they know which kid you're talking about.

Camden: My teacher's never been to our house.
Me: You're right, Camden.
Camden: It's a good thing, because she would probably freak out at how dirty the floors are...

Kellan bumped his head. Later I asked him if his head hurt. He replied, "no, my brain does".

We were watching a movie. It showed a banana, then an apple. Kellan was naming all the fruit. When a peach came on the screen, he yelled "THAT'S A SCRATCHY APPLE!".

I let the boys take a really long bath. When I was drying Kellan off I asked him if his hands were like prunes. He licked them, smiled and said yea!

When Kellan points at something and I can't figure out what's he's pointing to, he gets frustrated. Then he says "No, Mom! Look where my arrow's pointing!"

I asked Kellan to stop spitting, to which he replied "I'm not spitting! I'm blowing out water!"

I don't know where they came up with this, but when the boys are fighting with each other, whoever is the most upset says "Fine! You can't eat my birthday cake!" The other one soon straightens up after that. I wonder if I should try that? Hmmm...

Me: Camden, worry about yourself.
Camden: I want to worry about Kellan.
Kellan: Camden, stop worrying about me.

At the "Turtle Restaurant", the boys went to feed the ducks and turtles. On the way, there was a little step. Camden turned, grabbed Kellan's hand, and said "watch your step, brother". This is why I keep them.

The boys (Camden) love being quizzed on math problems. Granfy asked Kellan what 466 x 12 is. Kellan replied "I'm not doing math today"...
