October 16th, 2015

The boys are a tad obsessed with Jimmy Johns. (Wonder where they get that). I proudly told Camden that I actually met Jimmy John. (There's nothing that builds more confidence than bragging to your 6 year old). I then told Camden, that if he had a restaurant he could name it Camden James. He replied, "but I'm just a kid".

When we're in the car, and Camden's talking about himself, he always refers to himself as "the one that starts with C". As if I can't tell who's talking, or what scenarios belong to whom...

Kellan: When 'Scuse Me turns green, we know 'she's' sick and we have to take 'her' to the doctor. (It's driving me nuts that Kellan can't grasp the fact that 'Scuse Me is a boy... Maybe I should focus more on the fact that he thinks people have to turn green to be sick. (Damn you iPad and your hocus pocus teachings).

Kellan is going through a new wonderful phase. He gets dramatically fake devastated when he does something wrong and I correct him. Then he fake sniffles and asks if it was a mistake. I finally called him out on this, and said "No. It's not a mistake when you do something you know is wrong". He could not believe that his blue eyed act did not pan out for his benefit...

Kellan: I don't know how, but every time you see me licking my nose, that means I need a Kleenex...

The boys had make-up swim lessons. Camden went first, and then sat with me while Kellan swam. Kellan absolutely loves swim, but, to put this gently, hasn't mastered most of the skills yet. I involuntarily began cracking up as the instructor told Kellan to swim to the center of the pool. He moved all his limbs, but went nowhere. When the instructor saved his life and his face popped above water level, he had the world's biggest grin. Admittedly, this only made me laugh harder. Camden caught on to this and starting chuckling. He checked with me to make sure he was laughing at the right thing. I told Camden, that Kellan enjoys every second of life, but still needs a little more practice with swim. At that precise moment, Kellan was again attempting to glide through the chlorine filled waters without any success. Kellan just so happened to look up at us at that very moment and see us unable to control our laughter. Before I had the ability to research if this was a bad parent moment, Kellan began belly laughing with us. Hashbrown #parentingwinwhenitdidn'tseempossible.

Camden is working on his sight words. I am so proud of him, because everywhere we see one of his sight words, he points it out. Unfortunately, (you knew an unfortunately was coming), I do not know what Camden's sight words are. Being the amazing Mom I am, I wanted to work with Camden on his words in the car. Since I didn't know what words to ask him to spell, I kept throwing words out there that could be considered a sight word. Finally, Camden put me out of my misery and said, "Mom, you can just yell out words and I'll tell you if they're my sight words". What he didn't tell me was that when I said a word that wasn't a sight word, he was going to remain silent. I need to see a chiropractor now that I had to keep craning my neck to see if he was in the car when I didn't say a sight word. (I think my computer has saved the phrase 'sight word' now that I have typed 'sight word' so many times).

Camden: They're called dune buggies because there are lots of bugs in the sand and they run over them.

Camden said he played football at school and got knocked down quite a bit. I questioned, "you play tackle football?". He replied "yes, and I don't know why".
