Kellan sang me a song on the way to school and it included volcanoes and Walgreens...
At his new kindergarten, Camden's 6th grade helper's name is Natalie. She just loves him!
Kellan Grammy and I were walking in to morning prayer at Camden's school when Kellan suddenly (and out of the blue) announced that he didn't like tomato sauce... But he redeemed himself by saying this a few minutes later - "We can feel God in our hearts at morning prayer".
And Kellan went back in the dog house with this one. I said "I love you, Kellan!" He replied "I like you"...
Camden likes to comb his own hair and does a pretty good job. I wanted to comb it on the first day of kindergarten, and he just could not stand this. I firmly told him not to touch his hair as his hands got closer and closer to his monkey head. I can't argue with this one though. I did tell him not to touch his hair, so he rubbed it against the wall until it was messed up. I was still mad, but proud that he is smart enough to think of things like this. He just shouldn't be outsmarting me! Anyone else is fine ;)
There was a hint of rain coming (which is huge here in AZ) so the boys had to bring their 'broombrellas' (umbrellas) to swim class. After class, on the way out to the car, Kellan gleefully announced that he was allergic to rain! Camden sighed and said sadly, "I'm allergic to dust and pollen"... #1 we have never told Camden that he is allergic to anything in particular, and #2, I didn't know what pollen was until about 3 years ago...
Camden did an underwater handstand in the pool tonight at swim lessons. I cheered and waved to him and then quickly moved my hand from waving to pretending to fix my hair when I realized he should have been listening to the teacher and not goofing off...
Kellan was working on the backstroke tonight at swimming. I couldn't stop laughing at the fact that he has Fred Flintstone feet. They are very prominent when kicking and splashing in the clear pool water...
Camden and Kellan and I were playing school. They were the teachers, so I asked them what I should call them. Right away, Camden responded "Mr. Tilley". Kellan thought a minute and requested he be addressed as "Mr. Tellan"...
Out of the blue, in the car tonight Camden told me this. "God only makes good. If there's bad, it's because of people and their choices". I really needed to hear this, and wowed that it came from my 5 1/2 year old.
This morning, Camden was telling us that he had a dream about swim lessons. I said I had a dream that I was back in high school. Without missing a beat, Kellan said he dreamt about french toast...
The boys and I baked cookies last night. When they were finally cooled and ready, I placed the plate of delicious cookies on the table in front of the boys. Camden's face lit up and he pointed to the plate and said "Monkey see, monkey want". This has now become a very popular saying in the Tilley household...
Gross alert! Avert your eyes from this paragraph if you need to.
I pulled a booger out of Kellan's nose. As both boys were yelling "EW!" at the top of their lungs, Camden came to a realization. "Oh! That's what was making him shoot so many ducks"...
When Grammy's in the car with us, Camden aaaallllwaaays asks if she can get him out of his seat. This annoys me on several levels. The first being that he doesn't want his Mommy. The second, is that Camden is on my side of the car, and it would be so much easier for me to get him out and for Grammy to get Kellan out. Of course he asked Grammy to get him out the other day. I sighed and asked Camden why he always does this. He replied "I like her. She spoils me and I like spoilin'"...
We were all having dinner at Oregano's in Cave Creek. Camden was lying down in the booth and noticed there was gum stuck under the table. My first words (quietly) were "DON'T TOUCH IT!" Camden thought a minute and said "don't these people know that people sleep in these booths and can see the gum?"...
When walking in to said restaurant, Kellan said "Hey! This music sounds like trumpets!" It was totally a trumpet playing. I didn't know he knew what a trumpet was. I mean... I've had him in trumpet lessons for about 15 years now... Whew! Made that believable.
Still at Oregano's (I'm sure the staff were so happy about that). I had to go to the bathroom so I asked both boys several times if they had to go. They insisted they did not have to go. When I returned to the table (I went #1 only, I promise), Camden and Granfy were gone. I sighed because I knew Camden had convinced Granfy to take him to the bathroom. You know he asked Granfy as soon as I was out of his sight. A few minutes (forever) later, Camden announced grinning -when he was still about a football field away from the table, "Hi! We came back!". I went in to mean Mom mode, and then saw his dimples and Granfy's happy face. Let it be, Carrie, let it be...
Kellan had homework that involved artwork, so of course we went straight to Grammy for help. Grammy drew an amazing cow on the paper. I mean, it was perfect. (It's hard to be nice when you're jealous"). Camden was checking out the drawing as Grammy was drawing an udder. He asked innocently, "is that the milk tank?"...
We were all on the couch playing and Kellan giggled that he hurt his ribs. Camden asked me what ribs were, and Kellan matter of factly said "they are bones that protect our heart and chest". Camden's mouth dropped open, but he couldn't think of anything to say. He did not like one bit that Kellan not only knew something he didn't, but taught him something...
The boys were going on and on and said something that made me speechless. (I can't remember what they said because I have the process of blocking things out down pat). I told them "Mom is at a loss for words". Camden asked, "Why did you lose your words and where did they go?".
